My name is Jeff, and I’m a collector based in the Pacific Northwest. My interest in coins and currency began when I was a kid, with the help and encouragement of my grandparents. What started as a childhood hobby developed into a lifelong appreciation for the objects that have passed through American history.
For many years I collected both coins and paper money. Around 2020, I began shifting my collecting focus almost entirely toward currency. I still enjoy coins, but banknotes are where I found the part of collecting that interests me most.
I’ve always had a love of history and travel, and those interests have had a major influence on the way I collect. I’m particularly drawn to banknotes that have a connection to a person, place, or event—whether that means a National Bank Note from a historic bank, currency associated with a famous crime, a note recovered from a disaster, or a piece of paper money that offers a tangible connection to an earlier period of American history.
For me, the most interesting part of a banknote isn’t simply its denomination, rarity, or grade. It’s discovering the story behind it: where it came from, who was connected to it, and what was happening in the world when it circulated.
That idea eventually became Black Raven Currency—a place to share my personal collection, explore the history behind remarkable pieces of American currency, and offer carefully selected banknotes to other collectors.
